My husband really likes the name Alyssa for some reason. I think it is okay, but too common. I'm a preschool teacher and for the past few years there has pretty much been at least one Alyssa in my class each year (Two years ago there were 3 in a class of 15!). I also like more traditional names, and my husband usually does too. We've gotten some great suggestions on here that I love, but he still likes Alyssa best and I'm just not completely sold on it. I'd really like to hear other impressions of the name to see if it's just me. Do you think its too common? What are other ways to spell it? Do you think it works for an adult?

Feel free to suggest middle names and other names as well. Thanks!
Glenna, Alyssa Marie is the name my husband loves.
I'm sure we will find a happy compromise, but naming this baby has been a battle. With our boys we had names we both liked immediately.

I LOVE the name Alyssa. I'm bias though. lol My daughters name is Alyssa Marie. It was the ONLY name that we could both agree on. We didn't realize it was so common at the time. It doesn't matter to us though. We liked it and it fits her perfectly. We wouldn't have it any other way. Other than that, I have sons, so I'm no help when it comes to girl names.

*Great minds think alike! If you want something that not many people have..... Glenna is a nice name. lol I've only met a handful of Glenna's in my entire life. I was named after my grandfather, Glenn. My sisters' names are Erica and Jennifer. I'm glad I got the "unusual" name. Have a great day.

I Like The Name Alyssa. I Think Its Cute. I Dont Think Its Common At All. I Think Ive Only Met One Little Girl Called Alyssa. Her Name Was Spelt Alissa. Could You Not Compramise With Your Husband, If He Likes Traditional Names Too, Couldnt You Agree on One And Make Alyssa A Middle Name? Or The Other Way Round. Im Sure YOu Will Figure It Out.

I like it, it's normal. Some variations of the spelling might be Alissa or Aliessa. Also, how about Alicia. Some middle names might be Lorraine, Marie, Michelle. I think it would also work when she is an adult. My compliments to you and your husband on choosing a normal name for your child. Congrats to you both.

I like the name Alyssa, but you are right, it is way too common. I can name off 10 Alyssas without thinking hard. If he is not going to budge from the name, then spell if cute like Alissa, Alessa, Alysa, Alisha, Elisa, Allisa, or Elyssa. If he likes Alyssa try to suggest names that are close to it, but a little more unique like Alysa ( A-Le-Sha) or I am sure you can think of some others.

I always think of a very pretty and petite woman because of Alyssa Milano

I like Alyssa. It's very popular, but I like it nonetheless!
