I have a 9-year-old girl. She likes to color, paint, work with clay, make things from recyclables, or do any kind of craft. She likes to help cook. She likes to play outside, climb trees, look for frogs or bugs, ride bikes, or play tag or hide-and-seek. She likes to play card games and board games. She likes to build complicated structures out of blocks (she particularly likes making regular wood blocks into marble tracks). She likes to dance to music. She likes to make elaborate forts out of pillows and blankets. She likes to read. She likes to write and illustrate stories.

Stinging beads for a necklace or bracelet, making pudding, playing in sprinklers, listening to them read to you, keeping a journal, play with water blasters, skating, riding bikes, the park is always a hit, library, making crafts from outdoor items, weaving pot holders, gimping, nature walks (collecting items they found along the way and writing about their walk. Making collages out of magazines (make a list of themes and put them in a hat, draw from the hat and that is what their collage will reflect)

Depends on the gender. Boys like sports, so maybe you can do a sport-themed craft. Girls will go with anything you throw at them, as long as it's not too boyish.
