So Ive noticed that alot of teens(Not all, but a good majority of them) these days cant spell worth CRAP. I was wondering if you choose to spell horribly or if you seriously dont know how to spell? I dont know why people would choose to spell it wrong, it makes them sound rediculously ignorant, and stupid. Why do you feel the need to spell things so wrong?
And please dont think that I think ALL teens are like this, I just find it kind of irritating, and I wonder how they are ever going to go anywhere. You have to have good grammar to make it in alot of jobs.
Idaaaa-My bad. My spell check on here isnt working.
Sorry, Maybe its just me, and being an english ed. major when I was in college. I was just wondering if it irritates anyone as much as it does me.
BC-2012-Just because there isnt an apostrophe doesnt mean you cant understand the words Im writing. Some people write so badly that sometimes its impossible to tell what they are saying.

I spell correctly, I just use text slang (by accident) because I'm used to texting!

Teens today are so immersed in texting that basic spelling and grammar rules no longer apply.
Basically, laziness. Tmrrw is so much easier than writing tomorrow, right? It's a whole three letters shorter!!!
And yes, they'll get somewhere. They just have to realize that the real world doesn't operate in text lingo. I've seen very few adults who have become unsuccessful because of texting. Teens know spelling and grammar, they just chose not to use it all the time.
    (This coming from a teen)

ironic how you spelled ridiculously wrong, but typos happen.

i make a point to try and spell stuff correctly.
it makes you seem smarter, and plus i have firefox with spell checker so it warns me when i don't spell stuff right.

    very handy, aha(:

well I put up my purposal speech...still spelled it wrong just because I can spell hard vocabulary better than I can the easy stuff...I pratice the harder stuff more, and like purposal is not something I use everyday so I forget how to spell it.
    Like I can spell,
    Azapendages,
    Monclairrical,
    Condensepanation,
and alot of hard words..I guess it is just because you forget..and when I entered highschool I think that is when it happened...but I know I am smart because I got accepted to Yale..YAY
EDIT: Alot of hard words are embeded into my mind that when you say them I auto-matically know how to spell them...Idk it is weird.

Yes, I certainly am capable of spelling very well but sometimes it's just quicker to use text slang and stuff like that. I mean this isn't English class.

Oh, and you spelled I've, can't, and don't wrong! Sorry. LOL. I just had to point that out. =]

it's called slang the ignorance is in not understanding with each generation a new trend is started and slang is for the younger people. It's a way of speech and we talk that way because it's fun and we just do!We graduate from high school and some of us go on to college so im personally offended that people think the way you do.

I'm a teenager, and I can't stand spelling and grammatical errors. Maybe it's because I actually talk to people instead of texting...

Why are criticizing spelling/grammar when you cannot even form a proper contraction? It's "I've," "can't" and "don't," not "Ive," "cant" and "dont."

Do you mean "ridiculous"? And to answer your question, many teenagers just don't care at all about their education or their futures. I know, it is rather disturbing. They can't take twenty seconds to look up the word "definitely" and spell it with an "e" not an "a." I would attribute this spelling epidemic to general apathy and indifference among teenagers today. As long as they can spell their names, that's all they really care about.

We teens can spell. In fact, a lot of teens are amazing writers! You just need to get off Yahoo Answers! Try www.fictionpress.com if you want to see amazing teen writers. Most of us on there are grammar freaks! You just have to be on the right site. Also, grammatical errors do happen - you have to be forgiving!

    Ridiculously*
Some people just can't spell... it's not just teens. I don't think they feel the need to spell things wrong i think its just not everyone knows how to spell every word... and before you go and criticize teens for spelling wrong you might want to check your own stuff so you dont sound ridiculously ignorant and stupid.

I usually type correctly, unless I'm in a hurry or something. To me, it's harder to type incorrectly than it is correctly.

It takes too much time to think about abbreviating words that would only be shorter by one or two letters, anyway.

Ok, well for future reference, before getting angry at teenagers for not spelling things correctly, learn where to properly place apostrophe's.

I've noticed the same thing. It worries me a bit, as it tends to make the rest of us teenagers look bad. I read a lot, so my spelling is pretty decent, and my mom taught me to speak correctly. My grammar, when I so wish it, is near perfect.

That being said, English is easier for some people than it is for others. As long as the message is understandable, I think it is rather unfair to expect perfect spelling and grammar from everyone.

It isn't just teenagers either. Many people on this site use improper grammar, bad spelling, or netspeak.

Even your spelling is far from perfect (ridiculous is spelled with an "i" not an "e").

Honestly, it doesn't bother me all that much, but if I were to complain about others' spelling, I would try and make sure there were minimal mistakes in my own. "Those in glass houses..." and what not.
